FETAC (Further Education Training Awards Council) makes and promotes awards and determines standards of knowledge, skills and most importantly provides a platform for learners to receive certification. The training and assessment for this FETAC Safety & Health at Work (Level 5) will be completed within two working days (16 hours). The programme will be facilitated by two experienced trainers / facilitators / assessors. On successful completion of the programme, your organisation will benefit from competent and certified staff in Safety & Health at Work.

Safety Legislation

Infection Control

Workplace Health

Communication

Safety Statement

Manual Handling

Fire

Accident Causation & Prevention

PPE

Housekeeping

The course consists of two distinct parts. Each part consists of one day.

Day 1 is dedicated solely to preparing learners for a theory exam, which consists of 10 short answers questions (2 marks each) and 2 structured questions (10 marks each). Time allowed for theory exam is 90 minutes. The written exam will be given to learners directly after theory training has been completed. The theory exam is worth 40% of total marks.

Day 2 concentrates on preparing learners for two practical assignments, which will be completed by learners on Day 2. Each of the practical assignment is worth 30%. The practical assignment must:

1. State Plan & Objectives

2. List Documentation / Background Information

3. Identify main sources of information used

4. Identify all safety & health issues encountered / brief description of task

5. Analyse findings and conclude

Mike Thornton, M. Ed., Dip IITD
Mike Thornton is a registered FETAC Private Provider and a FÁS Registered Trainer. He has a Certificate in Safety & Health (UCD) and completed his Masters in Education with the University of Sheffield. He has a Diploma in Training & Development with the Irish Institute of Training & Development and is a member of IITD, IOSH and CIPD. He also holds FETAC (level 6) Train the Trainer certification, plus FETAC Safety & Health at Work (Level 5); FETAC Communication (Level 5) and FETAC Teamworking (Level 5) certification. Mike has extensive experience in delivering FETAC certified modules. Mike has been involved in FÁS Excellence Through People since 1997.

Mike Tobin, Dip S & H
Mike Tobin is a FAS Safe Pass Registered Tutor and a FAS Registered Trainer. He has a Diploma in Safety and Health from University of Limerick. Mike holds Train the Trainer certification from NUI, Galway. He is a member of IOSH and was Plant Safety Representative at Aughinish Alumina for 6 years. He has extensive experience as a tutor in Health and Safety, including FETAC, Safe Pass and delivering Safety courses on FAS Community Enterprise Schemes. Mike Thornton and Mike Tobin have worked together on a number of different projects including the delivery of the safety message through the medium of drama, developing training modules in risk assessment and lock out / tag out and delivering FETAC Safety & Health at Work (Level 5)
